What I Learned From The Life And Death Of Actor Corey Haim
WHAT I LEARNED FROM THE LIFE AND DEATH OF ACTOR COREY HAIM
I want to begin by explaining why Canadian Actor Corey Haim was one of my favorite actors. It is something about Canada and Canadians that is truly inspiring. The Canadian Entertainers and Athletes are Superb. The Country is truly Phenominal. The Canadian Ethics are unmatched. I experienced the best "soul connection" with a Canadian woman. I met her in the USA. She was returning to Canada. In the very short time that I knew her, she showed me the utmost concern for my feelings and our friendship. Corey Haim's personal and professional life mimicked those same endearing traits.
Corey Haim displayed the exact same "true to who I am" confidence of the late Johnny Cash. Corey wasn't afraid to examine his "light" and "dark" sides. We all have both of those sides. Yet, most of us cowardly hide the trueness of our personalities. In my opinion, Corey Haim was one of the greatest actors of all time. He brought a type of "I can relate to that guy" personality to his characters. Corey reminded me of the late James Dean (in a "my friend" type of way). When focused, Corey Haim's "work ethics" were impeccable. He had an unbelievable ability to "go into character" and bring a "depth of character" that increased the marketing value of the movie or production(s). This is one of the main reasons why Corey Haim could still find some acting jobs even with his "bad press". Rappers and other entertainers pay tons of dollars to publicize an image opposed to who they really hard. Corey never had to do this. Corey never had to lie about any "bad" things that he did. Corey Haim was the "Real Deal". Right or wrong, you have to respect a person who is that Real about themselves.
Corey Haim was born on December 23, 1971. His birth was of course a wonderful Christmas gift to his family. Corey was a Capricorn which explains his excellent professional abilities. Corey's birth date is also very close to the zodiac sign Sagatarrius (which ended on December 21). Corey benefited from what I call "double sign energies". People with two sign energies tend to be very dynamic. Two "double signers" that come to mind are Vincent McMahon, and Malcolm X. A person mixed with both Capricorn and Sagatarrius energies would be a very fiery, outgoing, "people person" business minded individual. Corey Haim was definitely that.
I am saddened by the loss of Corey Haim. He truly was one of my favorite actors. I always imagined that he would overcome his "crutch" and return to making great movies. I am happy, though, that our world is becoming more aware to the problems of drug addiction and its causes. I'm very proud of the persons who participate in shows about drug and/or alcoholic abuse and rehab. My life has been directly or indirectly (though associations) affected by physical, drug, alcohol and other abuses. I'd like to give my personal advice on how a person can address these concerns and hopefully gain some relief.
1) Accept That Our World Is Full Of "Darkness"- Some form of abuse (or dysfunctional) experiences are often associated with drug or alcohol abuse. We should never blame ourselves or anything we experienced from other people or other situations. When we allow situations to "dull our spirits (optimisms)", we become victims. A victim will always point to an undesireable situation to justice (or make excuses) for an addiction (or something that they might presently want to do). Bad or undesireable things may happen to us or around us. It is wise to get qualified and professional help to deal with these things than to turn to over indulgences, depression, anxiety, or other attempts to escape life's realities.
2) Accept That We Really Arenot In Control- When I realized that I wasn't in control, I totally gave up drinking. I'm actually terrified to even taste one drink. I know it's not that easy. We live in a world that fills our head about being "touch", "totally independence", a "bad boy", a "big girl", "I don't need no woman", "I don't need no man", "bad ass" , "touch girl" or other harmful beliefs. These beliefs are harmful as they deceive us. We begin to believe that we are bigger than temptation, bigger than the harmful effects of these products, bigger than Authority and big enough to "handle it". But who really handles it? How many people end up in jail, in rehab, in graves, or living "totally messed up" lives. Very few person with these vices "handle it". An entire criminal organization was overthrown due to criminals who "broke the rules", and used their own product. Any one intoxicated, high or influenced is not "in control" of anything. Let's analyze those words again: "intoxicated (wasted-totally not in control)", "high (spacey-somewhere other than life's reality)", "influenced (influence to do what? the fact that you are influence already means that you are not in control)"
3) Don't Point To Life's Problems As Your Excuse- So many persons justify their harmful actions by pointing to the problems of life. I can honestly say that our world has "changed" in the past years. So many law breaking business persons, religioius and political leaders have been convicted. So yes, the world does have "issues". But living life with a "it doesn't matter" attitude only makes things worse. Life will always have good, bad, and unexpected stages. Life has always come with one of two choices: choose life by "taking care of yourself", or choose death by living in an "irresponsible" fashion. "Death" is not always actual death. A life filled with anxiety can be a "slow" form of death. The word "dysfunctional" means that the functioning ability of something has "died" or needs to be evaluated and repaired.
4) Self Destruction Isn't "Cool"- It's sad that we feel we need to be high, "buzzed", or intoxicated to enjoy life. If we make it home "safe" then we feel that no harm was done. We forget that these things are illegal because they do cause harm. Tobacco is legal but is still harmful. The business world sells us a product that will addict us. We're stressed at life and want to "feel good". Most of us end up in jail, rehab, graves, or living very "messed up" lives. We also have victims. Think how many persons we have negatively affected because of our vices. What's cool about that? The business world gets richer as the opportunities in our lives diminishes.
5) FIND YOUR OWN "HIGH"- Most of us are followers. Why not utilize the creative brain that you were blessed with? Think of all the money and anxieties we waste on "getting that feeling". Why not invest those resources into our own advancements. We see "tons" of people who succeed daily. Why not invest in our own personal advancement instead of paying someone to help us "destroy" ourselves.
6) Stay Totally Away From The Vices-This world has a way of sending vices to us no matter what we do or where we are. We have to be very pro active in eliminating vices from our lives. It will be a daily and constant struggle. Qualified professional help will be an advantage in your struggle.
7) INVEST IN QUALIFIED PERSONAL HELP- It's wonderful when a person admits their problem and is willing to be helped. No one on planet Earth is perfect. We all have "light" sides and "dark" sides. Feeling guilty or ashamed is understandable, but it would be better to take postive steps to deal with (and hopefully) overcome our weaknesses. Qualified persons are everywhere. You just have to look for them. They want to help you. Let's be honest. We know how to find the "good stuff", right? So let's get just as busy am finding those qualified to help us deal with our temptations and vices.
ACCEPT THE EXISTENCE OF HIGHER HELP-You don't have to call Him or Her God. But that Person is there for you. If you want to yell at this Person, do so. If you want to know why They let "bad things happen", ask Them. Yell, scream, cry, get angry and do your best to get Their attention. The faster you do that, the faster They will begin to answer you. One way or another, They will begin to answer your plight. There is a belief that this Person allowed Their own Son to be brutally executed at after a very unfair trial. Once this Person explains the situation to you, you will no longer be overwhelmed with the evils of this world.
So why do so many of our friends and loved ones succumb to drugs and other vices? The truth is that most vices often have long term effects. We've read about the Christian virgin who engaged in sex once and then died shortly thereafter. Our world can be a very "dark" place. This is why we must each personally determine to "find our own light".
What I will always remember about Corey Haim is, no matter how dark his life was, he always shined with that Light.
